With the holiday season upon us and TSA staff authorized for groin checks, it’s time to start thinking about how much it totally blows to travel during the holidays…especially if you have to fly in or out of Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).
For its second year in a row, The Daily Beast busts out all its fancy analytical equipment and “crunches the lastest numbers to again determine the best–and worst–airports in the country.” And poor ol’ New Jersey, forever the butt of jokes about sophistication and culture (with Bravo not helping the matter at all), ranked dead last.
Here’s a closer look at Newark’s numbers:
2009 rank: 27th
On-time departures 2010: 76%
On-time arrivals 2010: 73%
On-time holiday departures: 77%
On-time holiday arrivals: 76%
Average security wait time: 7 minutes
Tarmac nightmares: 26th out of 27
Safety: 24th out of 27
Amenities: 26th out of 27
The numbers don’t look too bad when compared to other airports, as far as on-time departures and arrivals go, but dang, that safety stat is pretty icky. For the full report, click here.
