About this app

Optwell shows whether the person on a ticket can still get your marketing emails and texts, and lets your agents stop them in one confirmed step, logged on the ticket. It works with Klaviyo and ActiveCampaign, and it's built for the "please stop emailing me" ticket that turns up right after a big send.

See consent before you reply

  • Email and SMS marketing consent for the requester, with the date it was given or withdrawn and how (sign-up form, text keyword, API, preference page).

  • Suppressions in plain words: unsubscribed, hard bounce, marked as spam, suppressed by hand, with dates.

  • Every list they're on, and the ones they left, with the date and the reason when there is one.

  • Recent engagement: last email received, opened and clicked, last SMS received, with the campaign name.

  • Found by every email address on the Zendesk user, and in Klaviyo by phone number too, so SMS-only subscribers turn up.

Stop the messages in one confirmed step

  • Unsubscribe from all marketing: email, SMS or both.

  • Unsubscribe from one list and leave the rest alone, for "fewer emails" rather than "no emails".

  • Suppress an email address in Klaviyo, so nothing goes out whatever its consent says.

  • Every action says exactly what will change before anything is sent, and each change is sent once.

A record on every ticket

  • Each change adds an internal note: who did it, when, which account, the reason the agent typed, and the status the platform showed afterwards.

  • Tags for your views and reports, such as optwell_unsubscribed.

  • Resubscribing is off until an admin turns it on. When it's on, the agent must record how and when the customer gave consent and confirm they asked explicitly; that record goes into the note. Double opt-in still applies.

Several stores, one account at a time

  • Connect up to 3 Klaviyo accounts and one ActiveCampaign account, and map each Zendesk brand to one of them.

  • A ticket only ever reads from and writes to the account its brand maps to.

  • Choose who may take actions (admins, agents, custom roles or groups). Everyone else sees the panel read-only.

Built for requests under GDPR, CAN-SPAM and TCPA

These laws expect opt-outs to be honored promptly and consent to be provable. Optwell puts the opt-out where the request arrives and keeps a dated record of each change on the ticket. It doesn't give legal advice or decide what your obligations are; talk to your counsel about those.

What it doesn't do

  • It doesn't delete profiles or handle data erasure or access requests. It changes marketing consent only.

  • It doesn't lift suppressions; that stays a deliberate step inside Klaviyo.

  • ActiveCampaign: no suppress action (ActiveCampaign publishes no API for its exclusion list), no opens, and accounts must be on an api-us1.com API address.

  • WhatsApp and push consent aren't shown or changed.

  • It reads one person at a time and has no bulk or export features.

Pricing

Every feature is on every plan. 14-day trial; Zendesk asks for a card at install and billing starts when the trial ends unless you uninstall.

  • Team: $110 per month for Zendesk accounts with up to 12 agents and admins.
  • Scale: $9.50 per agent per month for accounts with 13 or more agents and admins.

Privacy

Your keys are stored as Zendesk secure settings: agents' browsers never see them, and Zendesk only sends them to a.klaviyo.com and your ActiveCampaign API address. Optwell reads the profile for the ticket in front of the agent, when the agent opens it, and keeps nothing: no copies, no exports, no server of ours in the middle. In Zendesk it writes only the internal note and its tags.

Not made or endorsed by Zendesk, Klaviyo or ActiveCampaign.

Installationsanweisungen

  1. Get a key from each marketing account. Klaviyo: Settings > Account > API keys > Create Private API Key, choose Custom Key, name it "Optwell for Zendesk" and give it Read access to Profiles, Lists, Events and Metrics and Full access to Profiles, Lists and Subscriptions (a Read-Only key works too: the panel then shows consent and every change is refused). Klaviyo shows the key once; copy it. ActiveCampaign: Settings > Developer shows your API URL and API key. Each user has their own key and it carries that user's permissions, so use a user who may edit contacts.
  2. Install Optwell from the Zendesk Marketplace and choose the plan for your team size (Team up to 12 agents, Scale from 13). The 14-day trial starts now; Zendesk asks for a card and starts billing when the trial ends unless you uninstall.

  3. Set Platforms to klaviyo, activecampaign or klaviyo, activecampaign.
  4. Klaviyo: in Klaviyo account names, name your accounts in order, for example US store, EU store (up to 3), and paste each key into Klaviyo private API key 1, 2 and 3 in the same order.
  5. ActiveCampaign: in ActiveCampaign account (from the API URL) type only the account name, the part before .api-us1.com in your API URL (acme for https://acme.api-us1.com), and paste the key into ActiveCampaign API key. Optional: a name for the panel in ActiveCampaign display name.
  6. With more than one account, map your brands in Brand routing, one line per brand: <brand id>: klaviyo 1, <brand id>: klaviyo 2 or <brand id>: activecampaign (brand ids are in Admin Center > Account > Brand management). A brand you don't map asks the agent which account to use; <brand id>: none hides the panel's data for that brand.
  7. Choose Who may take actions (agent for everyone, the default, or admin, custom role ids, or group:<id>). Unsubscribe and suppress are on by default; switch them off if you only want the read-only panel. Allow resubscribe is off: turn it on only if your team handles "please sign me back up" requests, and every resubscribe then needs a consent record.
  8. Open a ticket. Optwell shows the requester's consent; every change adds an internal note and an optwell_* tag to the ticket.

Zendesk stores the keys as secure settings: agents never see them, and Zendesk only sends them to a.klaviyo.com and your api-us1.com address. Optwell creates nothing in your Zendesk account at install. The internal notes and tags it adds stay if you uninstall. Uninstalling deletes the stored keys; also delete them in Klaviyo and ActiveCampaign.
