RuleScope

About this app

RuleScope gives Zendesk admins instant visibility into trigger health. Click Scan and get a full report in seconds — no configuration required.

What it detects

  • Action conflicts — two triggers that can both fire on the same ticket yet set the same field to different values (e.g. one sets priority to High, another to Low)
  • Dead rules — triggers with logically impossible conditions that can never fire (e.g. status is "new" AND status is "open")
  • Redundant triggers — duplicate triggers with identical conditions and actions
  • Execution order issues — a trigger's actions modify a field that a later trigger depends on, causing hidden ordering dependencies

Why-Not-Fire explainer

Pick any trigger, load a real ticket (or enter values manually), and RuleScope evaluates every condition to show exactly which ones pass, fail, or are unknown. It highlights blockers and suggests what to change so the trigger would fire.

Dashboard & navigation

  • Summary cards with active trigger count and issue breakdown by severity

  • Searchable issue list with severity badges (critical / warning / info)

  • Detailed issue view with affected triggers and actionable recommendations

  • Sortable trigger list showing status, position, and condition counts

Privacy & data disclosure

RuleScope operates entirely within the Zendesk Apps Framework. It reads the following data through the standard Zendesk API:

  • Triggers (conditions, actions, metadata)

  • Tickets and ticket audits (only when you explicitly load a ticket in the Why-Not-Fire tool)

  • Groups and ticket fields (for display labels)

All analysis runs locally inside your browser. No data is sent to external servers. RuleScope does not store, export, or share any of your Zendesk data. For more details, see our privacy policy at https://rulescope.offshoot-labs.com/privacy.

Installationsanweisungen

  1. Install RuleScope from the Zendesk Marketplace.

  2. Open Zendesk Support. You will see a new RuleScope icon in the left navigation bar.
  3. Click the icon to open the RuleScope panel.

  4. Click Scan to analyze all your triggers. The report shows conflicts, dead rules, redundant triggers, and order issues grouped by severity.
  5. Click any issue to see affected triggers and recommended fixes.

  6. To debug a specific trigger, switch to the Why-Not-Fire tab, select a trigger, and load a ticket ID. RuleScope evaluates every condition and shows exactly what is blocking the trigger from firing.
