Grouparoo is an open source solution that you run yourself for free in your environment. We will also be happy to host it for you. These instructions cover either case. For more details, see the documentation.
Define a source that represents your customer. This should have a primary key that would make a good external_id for Zendesk. As part of making a source, you will define the properties that often include email, name, and behaviors of the customer in the system.
Optionally, place those customers in one or more groups. This segmentation allows you to tag users in Zendesk. For example, it would allow you to route tickets of high value users to a different queue.
Create a Zendesk destination by mapping your customer data to User fields in Zendesk. At this point, you can also choose which tags you would like created.
With those mappings made, there is nothing left to do. The users will automatically sync to Zendesk including being updated if they change in the source.
